Founder's Statement

Mr. Osei Asibey Kwateng is the driving force behind Oak City International College.

Mr Kwateng, having been touched in 1990 by the plight of black minority ethnic youth as large numbers suffered from bad academic achievements and lack of guidance and pathways to employment, established the New Era College.

The purpose of the newly formed college was to fill a much needed void in local provision, namely to train local youth in vocational subjects such as business and health related subjects with defined pathways to employment.  This was a well received development given that Tottenham in North London was, at that time, amongst the most economically depressed areas in London due to widespread unemployment.

The College was hailed amongst local providers as it provided youth training and placements in practical Healthcare Studies as well as Business Courses.  This facilitated their transition into well paid employment and supported the local government’s key aim of reducing unemployment and crime. New Era College received acclaim for its local impact and was honoured by the late Hon. Bernie Grant, former Member of Parliament for Tottenham.

Having performed very successfully and developed the practical training institution for over 25 years in the UK, Mr Kwateng decided in 2008 to return to Ghana and established City of London Business College Ghana branch.

In 2017, the college changed its name to Oak City International College ( Oak City) in response to guidance from the National Accreditation Board.  Following successful navigation of the exacting accreditation process, OCIC became an institutional partner of the Cape Coast University.  This allowed the college to start delivery of the Nursing Diploma Course.

Today, Oak City is now accredited by NAB, Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and Affiliated to University of Cape Coast. Oak City is also accredited by Ghana Educational Service (G.E.S), Technical Examination Unit (TEU) for Medical Laboratory Technology (OND), as well as Allied Health Professional Council for Medical Laboratory Technology (HND).

Oak City’s Nursing Diploma, Medical Laboratory Technician and Pharmacy Assistant/Medicine Counter Assistant MCA are comprehensive programmes offering fundamental and detailed knowledge in their discipline.  This is important as it offers our graduates useful skills and makes them job ready from Day 1.

In line with Mr Kwateng’s drive to provide innovative vocational training courses 2021 saw the launch of the new Fashion Design and Media Studies Faculties.  Accredited by Ghana Education Service (GES) and National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), this program offers students the opportunity to gain a footing into the exciting and dynamic fashion industry..

Mr Kwateng is extremely proud with the legacy of having supported thousands of students across 2 continents in development of their professional careers over the past 30 years.  The Oak City team look forward to welcoming you to the college for what we hope will be a mutually fun and transformational educational experience.
